Baby and Me! A self care class for the sleep deprived

Baby and Me is a brilliant new class offered at Roots + Wings for new parents looking to explore, heal, connect and celebrate your new life! Directed by Jeannie Regan who has a passion for helping new moms balance the demands of motherhood with a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle through art journaling. This 8-week afternoon workshop is held in a judgement-free zone on the Roots + Wings Creative Campus.  Workshop includes a fancy life-affirming art journal course booklet (mini art supply kit available for $25), membership in a private Facebook group that will follow the workshop and it's goals - and instant connection and support from new parents in the weeds just like you.

Modern crafts for the Perpetual Beginner

Every time you start over you have a chance at a new understanding of yourself. Being a 'Perpetual Beginner' is about seeing the world in different ways and discovering an endless array of paths and possibilities. Join up for a series of new experiences or drop in for the sessions that pique your curiosity. Learn just enough to be dangerous.

Pins, Needles and Running With Scissors - An Exploration of Fiber Arts


January 8 • Tapestry Weaving
Participants will make their own loom and learn to weave a tapestry wall hanging. Class will cover basic techniques: warping, tabby, soumak, twining, rya knots. Basic materials supplied and additional yarn kits available for purchase, or BYO yarn.

January 15 • Embroidery
If you are 'angry enough to want to stab something 1000 times', join the Resistance and make your own protest embroidery or cross stitch

January 22 • Soft Toys
But of course, hand-sew a donut.

January 29 • Resist Dyeing
You will not be cheating death, just learning how to create Shibori dye inspired designs on cotton dishcloths

A Million Paper Cuts - Winning Ways With Paper


February 5 • Origami and Gyotaku Fish Printing
-(Origami) Fold cranes, hearts and butterflies for use in garlands, cards or just being a smug show off
-(Gyotaku) Don't barf, we'll use a very lifelike rubber fish model for this kinda creepy but cool printing method that makes beautiful prints on paper or fabric, wrapping paper and cards.

February 12 • Paper Cut Art and Quilled Scroll Work
-(Paper Cut Art) Get out a box of bandaids and learn how to make delicate paper cut art
-(Quilled Scroll Work) Wind and pinch strips of paper into coils and flowing shapes. Suggested uses: Cat Portraits

February 19 • Collage and Marbling Paper
-(Collage) Raid a doctor's office for 2009 editions of Vogue and make a ransom note or hilarious juxtapositions
-(Marbled Paper) Enjoy the satisfaction of doing something that looks harder than it actually is. Make marbled wrapping paper or stationery

February 26 • Lino Cut Prints
Carve a simple design onto piece of linoleum and print it. Optional but recommended: A first aid kit

March 5 • Throw Pillows
Stamp a pattern on a pillow case using fabric printing ink. Optional but recommended: pom poms, tassels and other subtle hints of insanity

March 12 • Concrete Balloon Balls
Say it without smirking and then make the best tealight candleholders ever. An extra special gift for the friend who has literally everything

March 19 • Wreaths
Modern, asymmetrical and so on point. No big fluffy bows in this class, sorry...

March 26 • Curio Boxes
Call it 'Assemblage', 'Found Art' or 'Altered Boxes' and inspire more questions than answers with these peculiar mini odditoriums. Artists have been using this technique for centuries to impress and terrify their friends

Retreats and customized workshops

We love creating customized workshops and retreats for individuals, groups and family events!  We can structure it to fit your schedule and can offer explorations in numerous art and design media.  For pricing, you may choose between a number of options:

One on One = $250
Up to 4 hours in sessions scheduled however desired (within limits).  Some materials, studio space and visual artist collaborator provided. Session accommodates one person.

3 People = $350
Up to 4 hours in sessions scheduled however desired (within limits).  Some materials, studio space and visual artist collaborator provided. Session accommodates up to three people.

6 People = $600
Up to 6 hours in sessions scheduled however desired (within limits).  Some materials, studio space and visual artist collaborator provided.  Session accommodates up to six people.

Hourly Rate and/or Additional Hours (3 hours or less) = $60

Additional supplies fee may apply based on number of participants. Travel and lodging outside of Asheville is additional.
