We are offering two camps that will run simultaneously: ages 3-6 and grades 1-5.
Each camp will explore elements of drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and more!

Creativity Camps + Design Studios
Making Labs + community camps

We have another amazing summer ahead!  Roots + Wings is offering numerous creative opportunities for your children (and all of their friends) this summer!  There is something here for preschoolers (as young as three) up to the high school student working on a college portfolio.   Students will work together and individually as well as collaboratively as they challenge and engage their imaginations!

Our Creativity Camps and Design Studios run in the mornings with staggered start times to help with parking.  If you have children in more than one camp, we can help with the lag time in between!  
Making Labs and Community Camps run in the afternoons from 2-4pm.  If you sign your child up for both morning and afternoon programs, they can be with us until 4pm!  Each offering has unique time frames, ages and locations, so be sure to look carefully.

Week 1: June 13-17
Castles, Dragons and Magical Lands

Ages 3-6
Monday – Friday from 9am – 1pm

Come travel with us as we discover imaginary lands full of invented characters, creatures and castles.  We will be creating magical landscapes, building castles, inventing characters and more!  There will be tons of drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpting and more!  We will read books, play games and be inspired by artists and worlds far away.  There will be free design time, snack time and outside time. Please bring a lunch and water bottle.  All materials included.

Latin American Folk Art Adventures

Ages 3-6
Monday – Friday from 9am – 1pm

Join us for a week of exploring Latin America through art, design, language, food and more!  We will learn Spanish while creating amazing works inspired by this beautiful and diverse part of the world.  Students will work with multiple art and design mediums as well as traditional foods and more!  We will read books, play games and be inspired by artists and worlds far away.  There will be free design time, snack time and outside time. The Magic of IMAGINATION

Rising Grades 1-5

Get ready to jump into wild imaginations!  We will explore the breadth of magical worlds including dragon, fairies, wizards, castles and more.  We will engage every age as we draw, sculpt, build puppets and castles – all while write and illustrate a screen play that we hope to perform on our last day!  There will be free design time, snack time and outside time. afternoon MAKING LAB: Sculpture, Prints and Altered Books

Rising Grades 6-9
Monday – Friday from 2-4pm

Join us as we dive deep into the 3-dimensional world!  We will be sculpting with clay, building with wood and foam-core, crafting printmaking plates, and deconstructing books with drills, scissors and glue.  There is no telling what will come of all of this!  All materials included.

Week 2: June 20-24
Fun Fish, Mermaids and Sea Monsters

Ages 3-6
Monday – Friday from 9am – 1pm

Jump into the water with us as we have fun with friends of the sea!  We will sculpt, draw, paint (and more!) real and imaginary elements of our own ocean worlds.  There will be schools of jellies, collaborative reefs, and ocean passports!  We will read books, play games and be inspired by artists and worlds far away.  There will be free design time, snack time and outside time. Curious Creations of Nature

Rising Grades 1-5
Monday – Friday from 9:15am – 1:45pm

Come ready to be inspired by our fantastic natural world.  We will explore elements of design through drawing, painting and sculpture, including exterior installations.  We will also get our hands dirty designing and working on ideas for our Roots + Wings garden.  It is sure to be a week full of pushing our imaginations!   There will be free design time, snack time and outside time. Bridges, Domes and Beyond: Design inspired by nature

Rising Grades 6-9
Monday – Friday from 9:30am – 2:00pm

Join us this week we look at our environment through the eyes of pattern.  Working collaboratively and individually, we will design and build scale models of domes, bridges and more.  We will also draw and paint in a series – while pulling inspiration from natural processes like honeycombs, crystals and animal building or nesting etc.  There will be free design time, snack time and outside time if desired by the group. Please bring a lunch and water bottle.  All materials included.

afternoon MAKING LAB: 2D Explorations – Journal sketchbooks for young artists

Rising Grades 1-5 (students in grades 1-5 who are in a R+W morning camp can stay and join!)

Join us as we learn how to use a sketchbook to push and develop your creative skills!  A class specifically built for this age group, we will learn techniques to help students develop practices for sketchbook ‘thinking’ as well as journaling.  All materials included.

Planets, Rockets and Twinkling Stars

Come explore the wild world of outer space with fun flying ships and wild creatures!  We will be engaging our deepest imaginations as we draw, paint, sculpt, print and more!  Students will create their own constellations, design planets, rockets and more!  We will read books, play games and be inspired by artists and worlds far away.  There will be free design time, snack time and outside time. Fun with Food, Faces and Places

Ages 3-6

afternoon MAKING LAB: Hip Hop Headucation

Rising Grades 3-5
Monday – Friday from 2-4pm

This weeklong intensive will immerse students into the culture of Hip Hop, with a primary focus on Break Dancing.  Students will be working with Joseph Adams (AKA: Mr. Joe) and will have unique opportunities to express themselves creatively, and will be encouraged to develop their own personal style.  Students are required to dress in activewear (including sneakers), bring a water bottle, have a positive attitude, and be prepared for a high energy workout!  Learn what it means to be a Bgirl or Bboy.  In this camp, we strive to be our best!  All materials included.

Sparkling Trees and Animal Tracks

Ages 3-6
Monday – Friday from 9am – 1pm

Art, Dance and Design World Tour

Rising Grades 1-5
Monday – Friday from 9:15am – 1:45pm

Lisa Zayiha will join us this week as we explore art and dance around the world.  Students will work both collaboratively and individually on projects inspired by multiple cultures through drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and more.  We will also work with Ms. Lisa learning about different dance styles, with an end of the week performance for everyone to see!  There will be free design time, snack time and outside time. Make Art not War: drawing, screen-prints, photos

Rising Grades 6-9
Monday – Friday from 9:30am – 2:00pm

Join us as we use the tools of drawing, printing and photography to express our inner voices.  Students will have space to discuss meaningful worldly topics as they engage in learning techniques to turn these ideas into something visual.  There will be free design time, snack time and outside time if desired by the group. Design, Plant, and Grow: Gardens!

Parading Puppets, Masks and Stories

Ages 3-6

Speedy Cars, Maps and Galloping Horses

Playing with SCALE – going BIG and staying small

Inventing Worlds: comics, illustrations, bookbinding

Rising Grades 6-9
Monday – Friday from 9:30am – 2:00pm

Come ready to focus in on exploring stories from all dimensions.  We will draw with pencil, pen and ink.  We will learn about illustrating our words with the appropriate choice of mediums.  We will paint, print and use photos to express the heart of a story; and create bindings to hold our creations as one.  There will be free design time, snack time and outside time if desired by the group. afternoon MAKING LAB: Craziness with Clay

Nature Kids! Explorations of OUTSIDE

Come join us this week as we are inspired by our amazing natural world!  We will spend time outside playing, observing and sketching the beauty we find.  We will be learning all about trees and the birds that flock to them.  We will look up as high as we can to find and paint the clouds!  And we will draw, paint, and sculpt all things gardens!!  We will read books, play games and be inspired by artists and worlds far away.  There will be free design time, snack time and outside time. Balloon Explosion!  Balloons + Music with the Jolly Balloonsmiths
