Re-discovering you
slowing down and finding space

Join Ginger as she guides you through a 4 week journey of offering yourself space and time to re-discover what makes you you. Participants will create original works of art using collage, chalk and other mediums to reflect, discover and dream.

There is no artistic experience necessary. Just come with a willingness to be open to what may unfold. Remember, this is a gift for YOU. Join us!

**The inspiration for this class begins with you. In an effort to create work that stems from your own interests and personalities, participants may bring in old books, photos, papers, magazines, etc to enhance the work you will create during our time together. But it’s not required!

For each age group, our instructors will work with students on exploring a variety of mediums, tools and techniques.  During the summer, some classes might be a one-time class while others will work in a series. These classes are offered in three-month semester form during the Fall and Spring.

To Register for any Art + Design studio class, please click on the button below.
You will be asked to create a login to the SimplyAfterschool site, add your children, and get registered!  Please be sure to note the correct email and contact number while class is going on, as well as any behavior issues or allergies we need to know about!

All of our weekly classes are drop off classes. Parents are not permitted to wait in the classrooms while class is in session. Parents are welcome to sit outside at our benches or picnic tables. Thank you!

Discover: Ages 5-7

Mondays, 4-5pm

3 MONTH SEMESTERS

$160 – full semester, $60 per month

Discovery Students continue to play with materials and work in a more thematic structure as we introduce the elements of art.  Students will learn about past and present artists from all around the world while honing their mark making, value and 3D drawing, still life studies, color play, paper manipulation, book making, and sculpting skills.

Engage: Ages 8-10

Mondays, 4-5:15pm

3 MONTH SEMESTERS

$180 - full semester, $75 per month

Between ages 8 and 10 students begin to engage in a more a specialized way, choosing topics and media that they find most satisfying.  Students will dig deeper into the principles of art and elements of design and focus in on developing strong skills in all mediums (possibly including comics, photography, printmaking, bookmaking, etc) but especially various drawing, painting and sculpture techniques.

Develop: Ages 11-14

Mondays, 6:30-8:00pm

3 MONTH SEMESTERS

Sept 9 - Nov 25
$220 – full semester, $85 per month

In these classes, students really start to develop their individual styles and aesthetic.  We continue to teach students more complex techniques in various media including drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, illustration, architecture, film, clay, and photography.  We will discuss abstract concepts, ideas of composition and explore self-expression, all the while infusing an atmosphere of play and innovation.
*cell phone use is not permitted during class

Working on a college portfolio or would you just like to hone skills in a specific medium in preparation for a portfolio next year?  Join us for our one-on-one intensives.  Meet twice a week for 1 hour for 4 weeks with one of our talented instructors.  Arranged as possible with our available instructors and the students schedule. Weeks do not need to be consecutive.  We also offer hourly consultations for designing and reviewing portfolios for student's applications.

Intensives $550 includes all materials / Consulting $60 per hour 

Custom workshops + LESSONS FOR all ages

Custom workshops and lessons are open to any age and any group number. Our artists have experience with young children, middle and high school students, and adults of all ages. These experiences are a great way for middle and high school students to continue to develop their artistic skills outside of school.  They are also wonderful experiences for families working through transitions or looking for a unique experience they can share with one another.  For pricing, you may choose between a number of options:

Individual Session
We recommend starting with 4 hours in sessions scheduled however desired (within limits).  We provide the materials, studio space and teaching artist. Some outside work may be assigned as well. Session accommodates one person.
$65 / hour - 4 hours recommended at beginning

Small Friend Session
Bring your BFFs to create together with you! We will provide materials, studio space and teaching artist. Session accommodates up to three people.
$85 / hour - at least 2 hours recommended

Large Friend or Family Session
Join us with your whole family! We will have materials, studio space and a visual artist collaborator provided.  Session accommodates up to eight people.
$100 / hour- at least 2 hours recommended

Drop off your child on Sunday mornings to join Miss Emma as she guides them in a playful yoga practice at Roots + Wings School of Art and Design. This playful practice helps children increase mind and body awareness, strength, flexibility, focus and creativity.

Creative Compositions: Exploring the World of Music and art

Wednesdays, 4-5pm

Join us as we explore the intrinsically connected worlds of music and visual art! Students will spend part of the class making music together, and the other part creating unique visual compositions using a variety of media. We will sing songs from different cultures, play along with instruments, practice melodic patterns and feel the connection between music and the body. Your child will gain invaluable skills of creative expression and will love exploring the relationship between music and art!

Roots + Wings spent three months creating a large scale Community Portrait with the folks attending the awesome and amazing Creative Mornings Asheville event.  The final piece will be a part of our Connecting the ANDs exhibit in 2019!
